Who wants to think about central heating when the days are still long and an Indian summer is still the topic of conversation?
But wait another couple of weeks and you may have to join the queue of people who are having problems waking up their boiler for the winter months ahead. Now is definitely a good time to beat the rush and get your central heating system serviced.
If it is a gas fired system make sure this is done by a *CORGI registered heating engineer. This warning is featured in Thomson Local directories along with lots of other tips and information about choosing and using home and business services.
*CORGI is the body given the responsibility by the Health and Safety Executive to maintain a register of competent gas installers in the UK . You can identify *CORGI registered suppliers in your Thomson Local directory as they will be displaying the *CORGI logo.
Thomson Local directories also feature some eye-opening tips on heating your home efficiently:
- When was your heating system serviced last? It should be done annually
- Is the programmer set properly – time, on-off setting, summer/winter operation etc?
- Fit thermostatic radiator valves in rooms where lower temperatures are needed
- Is the thermostat on the hot water cylinder at the right setting?
- Your old boiler may need to be replaced. Modern condensing and combination boilers are more efficient
- Is your loft adequately insulated? About 150mm (6 inches) is recommended.
More helpful hints and tips about making the most of your local service suppliers are featured in Thomson Local directories.
