Thomson Directories Ltd (Thomson) has added a number of new features to its website, www.thomweb.co.uk , in a bid to be the leading online directory and to deliver greater value to users and advertisers. Thomweb is the first site to benefit from the recently announced joint venture between Thomson and Infospace.com which has been established to develop and distribute co-branded content packages to leading international websites.

The central feature is Business Finder, Thomson’s popular on-line facility, which helps users to search for company information by name, location or category from Thomson’s database of 2.2 million UK business listings. This has been significantly enhanced to allow users to search for overseas companies.

Users can also find information on their local area such as places to visit, local history, entertainment, places to eat out, a calendar of local events and contact numbers for libraries, council offices, local groups and helplines.

In addition, the site now includes over 100 consumer tips to help users deal with suppliers such as builders, letting agents, insurance services and plumbers.

International information is available in country Travel Guides that contain details of history, culture, things to see and do, climate, geography and health and safety tips.

Fun features of the site include a global chat room, horoscopes and the facility to set up a free email account with ThomWeb.

Senior marketing manager, Kendall Gordon, said: "By adding relevant and complementary features to the site we want to build the number of users and to give them reasons to come back to the site time after time.

Already, traffic and advertising on the site is growing daily and we are well on our way to making ThomWeb one of the leading directory site on the web."
