Thomson Directories Limited (Thomson) and Lycos have signed
an agreement which will give advertisers a unique facility
to reach highly targeted local audiences.
When people use the Lycos search engine they will have the
opportunity to search over 2.2 million UK business listings
on the Thomson Directories Service "INbusiness".
By clicking on a button on the Lycos site, the user will be
taken to a co-branded Thomson/Lycos site where they can search
under any combination of company name, business type or geographic
location.
Advertisers can specify the categories and locations that
their advertisement appears next to. In addition, companies
can have a click-through facility from their listing to their
own website.
Commenting on the tie-up, Andrew Fisher, Business Ventures
Manager at Thomson, said: "This is a truly exciting deal.
At the moment, there is far too much advertising inventory
available in the market and most of it is too untargeted.
Advertisers can now reach a self-selecting audience that is
more targeted than they can with conventional media."
