Sixty four pages packed with healthcare advice and information on dealing with accidents in the home, adult and childhood illnesses, and common medical conditions are now included in the new Thomson Local directory which is currently being delivered to homes throughout Greater London. Croydon is the first area to receive the directory in a 12-month distribution schedule.
The Department of Health has joined forces with Thomson Directories to publish its extensive NHS Direct self-help guide called ‘Not feeling well?' within the Thomson Local. It provides easy to use, step by step advice on the best course of action when faced with a range of common healthcare problems whether at home or at work. This advice ranges from contacting NHS Direct for experienced help from professionals to simple self-care options which can be administered - on the spot - easily and quickly.
This is just one major new addition to the directory, which contains a huge wealth of information for people living within Greater London, from local community and entertainment to local trivia. For instance, did you know that the Surrey Street market in Croydon has been in existence for over 700 years?
Your new Thomson Local will also look quite different both inside and out. As well as adding web addresses to the business contact details listed in the A-Z section, Thomson Directories has added a new lifestyle section called Localplus, designed to provide relevant and useful information so you can get the most out of life. The wealth of local, regional and even national information will help with everything from finding your way around the Internet to planning a holiday.
“The self-help guide and Localplus sections are exciting new additions to the Thomson Local, which we hope the public will find helpful and useful,” says Kendall Gordon, Marketing and Strategic Development Director for Thomson Directories.
“With Localplus, we have identified main lifestyle interests and pulled together the most important and useful information and contact points - not just from the local area, but regionally and nationally too.”
You can discover which are the best performing schools in the local area, check on your local council tax band and even find out where the highest crime rates are. All this is featured in the Local & Community section of Localplus which also provides a quick reference tool on local services such as recycling centres and council contact points.
For people on the move, the Property section provides a price guide and all the necessary contact points. And for those wanting to make the most of their spare time, there is an extensive Leisure and Entertainment guide that takes users as far afield as Legoland in Berkshire as well as covering those favourite haunts closer to home.
Shops, from local to out of town designer outlets, have a section to themselves in Localplus, as do all those services associated with motoring.
With travel high on the agenda at this time of year, there are contact points for all your travel needs, including national and regional tour operators. The Transport section provides details of national airlines too.
For internet users, more in-depth Localplus information can be accessed online at www.thomsonlocal.com.
It's not all change, however. Proven favourites stay...but get even better. The Thomson blue cat introduces the new look Thomson Local on the front cover. The town centre maps have now been expanded to cover a larger area, the A-Z section now includes web addresses and the classified section has a brand new look.
“The Thomson Local continues to build on its role as an essential reference tool to meet the demands of today's very varied lifestyles”, added Gordon.
