Blackwater based charity Disabled Action Self Help (DASH), which is part of the Leonard Cheshire Organisation, was given a welcome cash-boost and a surprise visit from a celebrity of the feline variety this week, thanks to kind-hearted employees from Thomson Local.
Staff from the famous, blue directory have chosen DASH as their charity for the year and have undertaken a variety of events ranging from treasure hunts to running a tuck shop in order to raise much needed funds for the service.
Presenting a cheque for £800.00, Chris Nixon, Customer Services Account Director, Thomson Local said: “We chose to support DASH as they are a small, local charity that provides a fantastic service for its users. It is also a service that is very close to my heart; my husband was left disabled after an accident last year and has been attending the centre since October. He looks forward to attending every week and thoroughly enjoys the time he spends there. The Thomson Local team have been happy to help and we are currently organising an auction of autographed film and sports memorabilia to raise even more money.”
Val Fuller, Service Manager, DASH said: “DASH is run by an enthusiastic team of staff & volunteers and the donation from Thomson Local will be a big help. We will be using the funds to enhance the programme of activities that we are able to offer and bring in specialised tutors for areas such as IT. A large part of the service involves organising days out for the users to places such as the London Eye and Basingstoke canals; donations such as this allow us to further subsidise the trips and keep costs to a minimum. “
