January 2005
Concerns over the number of accidents and fatalities in the home, due to DIY electrical work, has led to the introduction of new legislation that came into force on 1 st January. This could explain the increasing rise in the number of searches for electricians on www.thomsonlocal.com, Thomson Local's online directory. Compared to the first week in November, searches for electricians in the first week of January are up by 75%!
As of January 1st people carrying out electrical work in homes, and gardens, in England and Wales will have to adhere to new rules in Building Regulations. Any new work that is being planned may need to have the approval of the local authority's Building Control Department and be carried out by an approved electrician. Failure to do so could mean not having the correct electrical certificates, which could cause problems when the property comes to be sold.
“It is in situations such as these where a change in legislation causes instant new requirements that the use of online directories proves to be invaluable. Now when people need to find a new supplier or service, the information can be quickly accessed, saving time and minimising the delay to any essential work that needs to be done.” Comments Louise Perry, Thomson Directories' Internet Product Manager.
